update your home for spring

The days are finally getting longer, the Sun is shining, and it’s time to come out of hibernation. Spring is the perfect time to spruce up your home and start afresh. Painting your living room a new colour, rearranging furniture, or incorporating new accessories are just some of the many ways you can give your home a new look. For even more great ideas, read on!

Add New Bedding, Curtains, or Pillows

Just a small change can make a significant impact! Freshen up your bedroom with some new bedding or bright, cheerful window treatments and a few throw pillows. Choose a bold, spring colour like yellow or pink to really make it pop! If you have a few extra throw pillows, use them in the living room to add a pop of colour to your sofa too! We love using cotton sheets, which are very breathable as the weather gets warmer. Plus, nothing says spring like Grommet-top curtains! Use a floral pattern to lend your room a look of sophistication.

Bring the Outdoors In

Who doesn’t want to bring the outdoors in during springtime? Add some literal life to your home with fresh, green spring plants! You can plant an indoor herb garden that will add life to any room and help improve the air quality in your home. Basil, mint, and thyme are always easy to grow, even if you don’t have a green thumb.

Declutter

Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start, which means decluttering your home! When you clear out clutter, you’ll feel better mentally and emotionally too! If you’re new to decluttering, start with just five minutes a day so you can slowly build momentum. You can also donate one item each day, including clothes you haven’t worn in a while, or take the 12-12-12 challenge! Find 12 items to throw out, 12 items to donate to charity, and 12 items that should be returned to their rightful owner. These little actions are an excellent way to update your home for spring.

Rearrange Furniture

No need to spend a dollar to get that fresh spring feel! Simply rearrange the furniture you already have for a whole new look. Centring your furniture around a focal point is always a great way to make the space inviting. For example, in the winter, you might want to rearrange the furniture to make your fireplace the focal point. Still, it’s nice to move things around in spring so that a window becomes the new focal point. Another pro tip is to allow a few inches between the backs of your furniture and the walls. This will make even a small space feel bigger.

Update Accessories

Spring is the perfect time to create space by removing some accessories. Clear your fireplace mantel and coffee table and lighten your bookshelf. Replace your more decadent accessories like brass candlesticks or dark wood boxes with some lighter coloured items and vases. If you’re buying new accessories, look for light shades like ivory or periwinkle blue.

Freshen Up Each Room With Spring Scents

One of the best parts of spring is the fresh air! Even if it’s still a little too cold to open your windows, you can bring new scents into your home with candles, potpourri, or diffusers. We like to choose a different scent for each room, so the air change is more profound. Some of our favourite spring scents include grapefruit and lavender!

It can be easy to feel uninspired about your home during the dark winter months, but if you follow our tips above, you’ll start to love your space again. Plus, many of these tips can be done without spending much! For more great ideas on how to get the home of your dreams, read the Falconcrest Homes’ blog.
