Are you bored of your same old, everyday kitchen? Maybe you are feeling like it is time for an upgrade. Lucky for you, we asked our interior designer, Anna Jilon about some of the current kitchen trends and upgrades that are popular today.
Trending Kitchen Upgrades
The kitchen is a place people gather together to share stories, and build friendships over a good meal. With that in mind, the popular trends change over time, and sometimes, you just need to have the most up-to-date style. According to Anna, today some of the trending upgrades to kitchens can be anything from the kitchen sink to the storage space around your kitchen. Here are her thoughts on some of the different upgrades that are trending:
The kitchen sink: Today, popular trends can include timeless farmhouse kitchen sinks, apron front kitchen sinks, and even different colored sinks. The kitchen faucet that has recently captured attention is gourmet style spring faucets, or pull down faucets like the one shown in this picture.
Storage Spaces: In Anna’s words, cupboards with soft close and pull up Blum hinge systems are the latest upgrade, and the colour schemes that people are upgrading to include grey and softer white tones.
Popular Kitchen Layouts
The layout of a kitchen is very important, as it can be the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful social gathering, and it can also affect your organization, the ability to move around, and the esthetic value of the room overall. Anna offered her thoughts on layouts that are popular today. Here is what she had to say:
“the popular layouts for kitchens today include a functional triangle workspace area with a separate island. If space does not permit this, then a u shaped kitchen with a peninsula functions as a good layout.”
She also mentioned that a lot of condos today are using a galley style layout, and that this style is best for smaller spaces.
If you are considering upgrading your kitchen, you may have no idea where to start. Luckily, we asked Anna what someone who is upgrading their kitchen should focus on, and she gave us some hints.
- When upgrading the sink and countertop, be sure to use a solid surface, such as quartz, or natural stone, and use a stylish faucet for the sink.
- Consider maximizing your storage options. Anna suggests adding in drawers for pots and pans, a deep upper cabinet above your fridge, and a pantry, if space allows.
- A highly recommended upgrade, according to Anna, is extending your upper cabinetry to include a flat panel and crown moulding to the ceiling with under cabinet lighting below.
- When upgrading a kitchen, keep in mind the cabinetry colour, door profile, and hardware. In Anna’s opinion, even these small things can help in the upgrading process.
Upgrading Costs
When upgrading a kitchen, depending on the upgrades you choose, the costs may vary. We asked Anna how much you could expect to pay for a kitchen upgrade. She said that the average cost can be anywhere between 10 000 and 60 000 dollars, depending on the size of the kitchen, and the options that you choose. She added that upgrading the kitchen is a good investment, as it can increase the resale value of your home.
One Must Have
There are many must haves for a kitchen in 2017, but when asked what her favourite must have was, Anna said that it was the commercial style gas range, because it is not only aesthetically pleasing in the kitchen, but it is also functional to allow you to enjoy cooking your meals.
