Are you looking to add some excitement to your life this summer? You’re in luck! Oakville is hosting a variety of events next to Royal Oaks that everyone will enjoy. If you need some wonder and enjoyment, take advantage of these fantastic summer events below!
The Oakville Film Festival
Each year in June, Oakville hosts its only Independent Film Festival! In past years, this film festival has been spread across three jam-packed days. Fortunately, this year, they have expanded to include a whole week of film viewing beginning on June 23rd. To adhere to safety restrictions — and bring viewers the comfort of watching new movies in their own homes — this year’s film festival will be completely digital!
CHILD-ish
Originally a play, CHILD-ish is a performance based on the pure — and brutally honest words of love, life, and the word spoken by children and performed by adults. The cast puts a unique and hilarious take on a child’s perspective of the world, drawn from interviews of over 40 children. This special web-series launch is a must-see! Join the free virtual launch event on June 22nd to watch all 4 episodes and meet the people who made them.
Exploring Art with George Sanford
George Sanford is an artist, teacher, and art connoisseur. He has travelled around the world, giving art tours and informing and educating children of all ages. Come and enjoy weekly presentations from a brilliant presenter as you see and hear about the great composers such as Debussy, Tissot, and other artists of the world. Taking place virtually (easily accessible from your smartphone, tablet, or other devices) or at the Oakville Public Library, depending on restrictions.
Open Mic Mondays
Open Mic Mondays with host Dyanne Dumas is a chance to express yourself! This open mic program encourages viewers to share their own artistic abilities in music, poetry, dance, and the fine arts. Graduating from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Dyanne is a music teacher and director. She shares her own passion for music with participants with a patient and light-hearted approach. Access Open Mic Mondays on Zoom!
The Art of Story Time
Don’t hesitate to check out Oakville Galleries’ Gairloch Gardens to explore art and enjoy storytime. This outdoor event is designed to encourage thought-provoking play for your little one. Start with a stroll among the flowers and unique sculptures, then enjoy a toddler-friendly art activity and an engaging storytime to end the day. A perfect activity to incorporate into a beautiful sunny day.
