Celebrate Dad this year by taking him into the great outdoors to enjoy family, sunshine, and good food. June 18th is National Picnic Day, as well as Father’s Day, so it is a perfect opportunity to participate in both occasions at the same time! Here are some of our favourite places to throw a Father’s Day picnic in Vaughan.

Lake Wilcox Park

Lake Wilcox Park is a newly constructed space located only 20 minutes from Vaughan and is the perfect location to spend a whole day with Dad. The park was officially opened in 2014, and currently features a waterfront promenade suitable for all ages, picnic areas, washrooms, and a splash pad. Designs are also underway to implement a youth area, catered to 13-19 year olds, and will be open in 2021. Regardless of the age range in your family, this park is a perfect location to spend a day with Dad in the outdoors.

Boyd Conservation Area

Nestled within the busy city life lies a quiet, preserved area that offers natural beauty. Boyd Conservation Area is located on the Don and Humber Rivers and provides a rare opportunity to enjoy nature without leaving the city far behind. This Father’s Day, offer your Dad the serenity of being surrounded by tall trees, winding paths, and the sound of birds chirping. Pack a picnic and plan to hike on one of the many trails the park offers, or make use of the customer service representatives and plan a fully catered family barbecue. For a relaxed Father’s Day picnic, this park offers the green space for a calm, quiet, and natural setting.

The Kortright Centre for Conservation

Fill the day with outdoor adventure and education, and bring your Dad to the Kortright Centre for Conservation. Located only 13 minutes from Vaughan, this centre features wide open spaces for large scale picnics, as well as educational programs for children and adults alike. The park is a total of 324 hectares of forested and open green space and offers weekday walks in the woods, as well as courses on sustainability, organic gardening, nature photography, and more. If Dad is the outdoorsy type and enjoys learning new skills, this park is the ideal location to host a picnic to celebrate with him.

Mackenzie Glen District Park

Stay close to home with Dad and plan a picnic in the conveniently located Mackenzie Glen Park, only 8 minutes from the heart of Vaughan. This park offers the potential for a whole day of picnic fun. There is a splash pad, picnic areas, ample parking, and washrooms, so bring a frisbee and your bathing suit, and spend the day enjoying a Father’s Day Picnic with the whole family.

Kingsview Park

This quiet, centrally located park is the ideal location for an intimate picnic with Dad and immediate family. The park offers play structures for younger children and a basketball court for a small family friendly game. Spread a blanket out under the gazebo, and enjoy a traditional family picnic with Dad.

Regardless of whether Dad is the adventurous outdoorsy type or the urban type, there is a park that will suit every father’s preferences, and provide the best space for celebrating both National Picnic Day and Father’s Day in one.
