A dream closet is a sanctuary for today’s busy professionals to dress, relax and prepare for the day or evening. And while a dream closet should provide organized, trouble-free access to the occupants clothing, shoes, and accessories, the room should also be stylish, cozy, and reflect the user’s personal style. More importantly, a dream closet should be designed as a retreat to contemplate and prepare for a the new day or a special evening out.  Below are five tips on how to create your dream closet.

Illuminate the Closet with Decorative and Practical Lighting

To give your closet a chic, luxurious look, illuminate with a decorative chandelier or a set of retro sconces. Then, brighten the room by adding LED strips under and over the shelves.  Finally, to ensure you can see every piece of hanging garment, have LED lights installed directly into your hanging rods.

Add Color to Revive Space

Breath life into your closet with a fresh coat of soothing paint, like violet, mint, lite blue, pink, and yellow.  And, use semi-gloss paint, which reflects more light.   Or select a wallpaper in a subtle print.    In both cases, be sure to tie the closet colors with the bedroom’ color’s so to create flow between the rooms.

Install a Center Table

If space allows, install a center table or island, which is the perfect staging area for laying out the next day’s wardrobe and accessories, putting on makeup, and folding clothes.   Be sure to hang a light fixture above the island; and, to enhance the sense of space place a mirror on top of the island along with mirrors attached to the closet doors and empty walls.

To increase chore efficiently in your home, install a built-in washer and dryer in your dream closet, along with a designated space and built-in dirty laundry cabinet.  Combining your laundry room and master closet is a smart way to double duty the space and ultimately save you time.

Create Excess Storage Space

An abundance of rods, shelves, shoe racks, and drawers will provide your dream closet enough storage for all your wardrobe needs.  Consider a sliding shelf for your shoes. Set up special compartments for your scarves, ties, belts and jewelry; perhaps in the center island. Install a valet rod to hang your clothes for the next day.  Put handbags, mittens, and gloves, and boots in cubbies. Consider glass door in the cabinets so you can easily view contents.
